I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Cabo San Lucas twice. Pete and I were first there in December, 2013 as guests of our friends Susan and Michael. In February 2020, Susan invited five of us girlfriends to fly to Mexico for a girls week of fun, delicious food, and sheer relaxation. We easily fit in their 3 bedroom condominium at Villa La Estancia Beach Resort and Spa.
Our view from the deck at Estancia
The resort "Estancia" is fabulous! Check out its website by clicking directly on the name to see why I so highly recommend booking here. Besides the loads of amenities, you’ll find everything you need on the property.
The gorgeous Medano beach is just steps away
Plus, the views anywhere on the resort are amazing. From our wraparound deck featuring our own marble hot tub, we could easily see El Arco, Cabo’s most famous rock formation marrying the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez.
Speaking of marrying, In 2013, Pete and I spent a lovely morning on conjoined Lovers and Divorce Beach.
Pete and I standing between Love and Divorce
Why the two juxtaposed names? You must visit and see for yourself, but be careful!
After taking a water taxi to Lovers Beach, you’ll first bury your feet in the luscious soft sand of the gentle coastline.
But stroll the short distance to the opposite side of the island, you'll quickly find that this beach is no place for “lovers”.
Swimming is not advised on Divorce beach; its jagged rocks and intense wave action makes swimming quite dangerous.
"This is as far as I go dear"
Travelers Tip: Expect to pay the water taxi driver a round trip fare at the start of your adventure. When you wish to return to the mainland, you’ll easily find a water taxi to take you back at no additional cost (though tips are greatly appreciated).
Travelers Tip: Cabo is located on Mexico’s southernmost tip of the Baja California peninsula. The climate can deceptively vary quite a bit. Pack layers for comfort. Remember sunscreen no matter what time of the year you visit.
In December 2013, the four of us enjoyed sunshine and warmth nearly every day. In February, 2020, despite the weather being noticeably cooler, the six of us still enjoyed outdoor activities of all kinds such as whale watching, rooftop tennis, and for me, flying!
When Pete and I visited Cabo in 2013, I couldn’t help but notice the sign near a motorized hang glider operation located near our condo. I promised myself that if I was lucky enough to return, I just had to take a ride on that gizmo.
In 2020, I made good on that promise. For roughly $200, I enjoyed a 20 minute flight with Cabo Sky Tours. My very capable and friendly pilot treated me to a birds eye view of the gorgeous water, homes, and landscape that makes Cabo San Lucas so special.
That's me, making good on my promise - So Much Fun!!
If you are a foodie, Cabo San Lucas may become your dream destination. Whatever you prefer, your meals are wonderfully prepared at any of Cabo's dining options.

Most reassuring of all, Cabo San Lucas is extremely safe to visit. We walked to and from restaurants in town feeling comfortable in our surroundings no matter the time of day or evening.
Ambiance abounds in Cabo San Lucas
“Cabo” - so lucky to visit twice. How lucky for the six of us, we visited in early 2020. On the day we girls returned to the US, February 8th, an American was reported dead; killed by a mysterious new Coronavirus in Wuhan, China. Exactly three weeks later, came reports of the first Covid-19 outbreak in an extended care facility in Washington state.
I believe it's fairly correct to say that from that day on —travel, and the world changed irrevocably.
But, you'll see, a world pandemic wasn't about to stop me for long.
